Rema’s Debut Album, “Rave & Roses” Earns A Diamond Certification In France

Rema’s debut album “Raves & Roses” has now been certified Diamond by SNEP two years after it was released. On March 25, 2023, SNEP’s official Instagram account posted a statement revealing this, since the album had already sold over 500,000 copies.

The album “Raves & Roses” was published in March 2022, following the release of the singles ‘Soundgasm’ and ‘Calm Down’ to tease fans. The album’s breakthrough hit, “Calm Down,” whose Selena Gomez remix catapulted it to international prominence, is the main factor behind its popularity.

The Afrobeats song “Calm Down” is the first and only to have surpassed one billion Spotify plays. Additionally, the song video has received over 830 million views on YouTube, setting a record for Nigerian music. With a No. 3 peak and more than 52 weeks spent on the chart, the song is also the longest-charting and highest-ranking Nigerian single on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Calm Down” achieved great popularity in France, where it was awarded a diamond certification, along with Burna Boy’s “On The Low” and “Last Last,” Ayra Starr’s “Rush,” Oxlade’s “Kulosa,” and CKay’s “Love Nwantiti.” After Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated fifth album, “African Giant,” “Raves & Roses” became the second Nigerian album to receive France’s highest certification.

This goes to show the immense global prominence and appeal of the Afrobeat sound.
