The 38th Golden Disc Awards Performers And Winners Revealed

On January 6th, the 38th Golden Disc Awards ceremony occurred at the Jakarta International Stadium in Indonesia. The event, which ran for two days, is one of the most prestigious annual music awards shows in South Korea, celebrating the best musical releases from mid-November 2022 to early November 2023. The ceremony was hosted by Sung Si-kyung, a famous South Korean singer and television host, and Cha Eun-woo, a member of the K-pop boy band ASTRO. The show featured various performances from several K-pop acts, including rookie groups like ZEROBASEONE and BOYNEXTDOOR, classical vocal group La Poem, and veteran rock band YB.

The night’s biggest winners were SEVENTEEN and NewJeans, who took home the grand prizes for album and song of the year, respectively. IVE and BTS’ Jungkook also won several awards in the best album and song categories, while Stray Kids was named a Global K-pop Artist Award winner. SEVENTEEN, one of the most popular boy bands in South Korea, performed their hit single ‘Fighting’ as part of their sub-unit BSS. They later performed their 2023 singles ‘Super’ and ‘God of Music’ with the full group. Fellow HYBE boybands ENHYPEN and Tomorrow X Together also performed some of their latest tracks, and the latter’s Yeonjun covered Taemin’s ‘Guilty’.

NewJeans, the Song of the Year award winners, performed their winning singles ‘Ditto’ and ‘Cool With You’ from their latest mini-album, ‘Get Up’. IVE, a five-member girl group, delivered a stunning performance with hits like ‘Baddie’ and ‘I Am’. Meanwhile, STAYC performed a medley of iconic girl group tracks along with their singles’ Teddy Bear’ and ‘Bubble’. Other notable performances of the night included Parc Jae-jung’s ‘Let’s Say Goodbye’ and covers of BLACKPINK and IU by members of BOYNEXTDOOR and ZEROBASEONE, respectively. Stray Kids, a popular boy band, put on an explosive performance of ‘Megaverse’, ‘S-Class’, and ‘Hall of Fame’.

In addition to the musical performances, the ceremony featured unique collaborations between Sung Si-kyung and Cha Eun-woo, LE SSERAFIM, and YB. The latter, a legendary South Korean rock band, performed their hits, ‘Unforgiven’ and ‘Fire in the Belly’. Overall, the 38th Golden Disc Awards was a night full of glamour, talent, and surprises, honouring some of the most outstanding achievements in South Korean music over the past year.
