Usher Wins “Entertainer Of The Year” At NAACP Image Awards

Usher, the multi-talented R&B superstar, had a triumphant night at the NAACP Image Awards held on March 16th, and it is still trending online. The 55th annual ceremony was hosted by the legendary Queen Latifah at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Usher received two prestigious awards – the Entertainer of the Year and the President’s Award. Derrick Johnson, the president and CEO of the NAACP, presented the latter to Usher. In his acceptance speech, Usher paid tribute to his mother, Jonnetta Patton, who had been a profound source of inspiration and support throughout his career. Usher spoke about how his mother had encouraged him to take his art to the world and how she had fought against the odds in a male-dominated industry to become a successful businesswoman.

Usher also took the time to acknowledge the contributions of women in the entertainment industry, who he believed were often overlooked and underappreciated. The night’s highlight was undoubtedly the Entertainer of the Year award, presented to Usher by the legendary Oprah Winfrey. Usher beat out stiff competition from other nominees such as Coleman Domingo, Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer. Keke Palmer, who had made headlines following a public interaction with Usher at one of his Vegas residency shows, was also in attendance. Rumours had been circulating that Keke Palmer had moved on from her partner, Darius Jackson, but this was unconfirmed. Nonetheless, seeing the NAACP celebrate Usher and Keke was heartening.

Usher’s numerous achievements in the entertainment industry, including his residency, new album, Super Bowl halftime show, and other performances, earned him the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. The ceremony also recognized other black excellence in the entertainment industry, including Fantasia Barrino for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture and The Color Purple for Best Motion Picture. The NAACP Image Awards celebrates black excellence in the entertainment industry, and Usher was understandably in high spirits. He had recently thrown a party for the Oscars, and it seems that the good times are set to continue.
