When the University of Ibadan granted her a spot, she chose Language Arts as her field of study since she had once dreamed of becoming a broadcaster or something akin to a newscaster. After graduating, she looked for a stage on which to speak. She got so close to getting one, but destiny had other plans.

She learned of a hiring process at the African Independent Television (AIT) facilities through a friend. She left the following morning for Alagbado, the AIT’s operational headquarters. She was informed that she had arrived a day earlier though when she arrived. As the later actress born under the sign of Leo made to leave, one Ifeanyi Arthur, an actor who had also come for the interview, informed her of an acting audition in town. The notice at the gate informed applicants that the job recruitment exercise into the programs department would hold the following day. Ayo describes how a man persuaded her to try out for the audition she was told would take place at Surulere.

Ayo’s next contact was to find out the location of the audition. However, Ayo was given a cameo part on the set of “Onome,” which industry insiders jokingly refer to as a “waka pass.” That didn’t discourage her from acting, as it would have anyone who had come in intending to play the significant role at first glance. She merely wished to get a sense of the terrain. So it should come as no surprise that she clung to the “small role” and played it as best she could. According to observers, she received more Nollywood jobs as a result of the honest way in which she approached the task.

Ayo had observed performances and skits given by Theatre Arts Department students during a large portion of her free time, so acting wasn’t too herculean for her. The talented actress recalls how performers like actor and contemporary Konkere music exponent Tunji Sotimirin and the owners of the well-known “Lafomania” comedy club mesmerized her with their performances. She yearned for a chance to take action as each day went by. However, that chance didn’t present itself until the late 1990s, a few years after she received her degree from the University of Ibadan. The Ogun state native got a break thanks to a lucky ticket she won for a cameo appearance in the award-winning film “Onome,” directed by Opa Williams.

In 1996, Ayo Adesanya debuted in the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood), where she started her professional acting career. She had tried to get other jobs, but remarkably, she finally got her first significant acting role. Her foray into acting met with little opposition at home. Ayo, who believes that how her parents raised her—especially her mother—has contributed to her success in both her work and personal life, claims she received more support from her mother than necessary.

She made her broadcast debut in the Tunji Bamishigbin-starring soap drama “Palace.” After “Onome,” she was allowed to star in “Dry Leaves,” another one of Opa William’s financially successful movies.

Again, that chance, her performance in Richard Mofe Damijo’s “Out of Bounds” and the Yoruba film she produced, “Otelemuye,” were the catalysts. Ayo quickly displayed her versatility on screen. She rose to fame among those who made home movies and quickly became the talk of the major producers in the industry. Ayo Adesanya then made her way into the Yoruba film business, appearing in, producing, and directing a number of films. Ayo Adesanya (as an actress) has also appeared in numerous films as the years passed.
