Stefanos Tsitsipas was born in Athens, Greece, on August 12, 1998. His mother, Julia, is Russian, while his father, Apostolos, is Greek. His mother had once held a position in the top 200. His parents were both tennis players. Tsitsipas started training at the Tennis Club Glyfada outside of Athens when he was six. At the age of six, Tsitsipas started taking tennis seriously under the guidance of his father. While he was younger, he also participated in football and swimming competitions, but at age nine, he decided to focus solely on tennis. His father has always been his leading trainer, and to better instruct his kids, he officially studied tennis coaching at the University of Athens. Additionally, starting his training at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy in 2015, Tsitsipas divided his time between France and Greece.

Additionally, they were given the eighth wildcard at the 2021 Hamburg European Open, where Stefanos finished second in 2020 and was given a wildcard for the singles competition.
The 2023 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, Stefanos and Petros’ thirteenth tournament in two years, granted them a wildcard, but they were eliminated in the first round. For the 2023 Mutua Madrid Open and the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters, the brothers were once more given wildcards, marking their fourteenth and fifteenth as a team. It was Petros’ 100th career wildcard.

Rankings
Tsitsipas has a strong forehand and frequently controls points by driving his opponent all over the court. Additionally, he can flatten his forehand and score off short balls. Tsitsipas consistently receives many free points thanks to his strong first serve. However, his second serve frequently lacks bite and is vulnerable to attack. Tsitsipas’ one-handed backhand, which is generally regarded as his weaker wing, is stylish. He can hit a precise down-the-line missile anytime to open up a point, but he can also make a few unintentional backhand errors. Tsitsipas’s net game is already among the best in the world; he frequently makes spectacular diving volleys while nailing difficult volleys, making him a YouTube favourite.
Tsitsipas is a former world No. 1 junior. At 14, he started competing on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2013. Before the Abierto Juvenil Mexicano in November 2014, he had not participated in any Grade A tournaments of a high calibre. Still, a month later, at the Orange Bowl, he reached the final of his second Grade A competition of his career.
The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has ranked him as high as world No. 3, a position he attained on August 9, 2021, making him, along with Maria Sakkari, the highest-ranked Greek player in history. The ATP Finals were won by Tsitsipas in 2019, making him the event’s youngest champion in 18 years. He has nine ATP singles championships (including two Masters 1000 championships). At the French Open in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2023, he competed in two major finals and lost both times.
He is currently ranked 5th in the ATP Top 10.
