She rose to prominence after posting videos on YouTube as a teenager, and she advanced to Hollywood week on the ninth season of American Idol in 2010. Tori Kelly’s self-produced debut EP, Handmade Songs by Tori Kelly, was released independently in 2012.

Kelly was nominated for Best New Artist at the 58th Grammy Awards, and she portrayed Meena in the 2016 animated feature Sing, which she reprises in the 2021 sequel Sing 2.
