Anthony Joshua has triumphantly returned to the ring, defeating Jermaine Franklin at The O2 in London by unanimous decision. The former two-division world champion had not fought since his August 2022 loss to Oleksandr Usyk, he showed no symptoms of ring rust as he dominated Franklin throughout the entire bout.
In Joshua’s favor, the judges scored the fight 118-111, 117-111, and 117-111. Throughout the battle, Joshua landed several powerful blows. However, it was not without controversy, as the two combatants’ tempers flared following the final chime. As Joshua and Franklin exchanged blows, security was compelled to intervene.
In a post-match interview with DAZN, Joshua apologized for the altercation, stating, “Inside this square circle, there’s a different energy, so I’m sorry that people saw that.” In addition, he expressed his desire to fight Tyson Fury for the WBC world title, stating, “I strive to provide for the fans, I know who the fans want – who do the fans want? They mentioned Fury, yes? If he accepts the challenge, I would be honored to contend for the WBC world championship.
Joshua demonstrated that he is still a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division, and the evening was a success. He also alluded to a potential return to the ring this summer, giving fans something to anticipate in the coming months.
