Fire Breaks Out In Lagos’ Balogun Market And Razes Down Shops

On Lagos Island, a five-story structure at Gbajumo Street, Balogun, was destroyed by fire. According to reports, the fire began on Thursday at midnight. According to Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the second level of the structure was where the fire originated.

“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a serious Fire outbreak at 3/5 Gbajumo Street, Italian Plaza, Balogun, Lagos Island,” said Adeseye.

According to her, at 23:54, the fire agency received a distress call from Lagos Island, where a building housing various containerized shops used as warehouses and stores was on fire. Alausa joined the two fire teams from the Ebute Elefun and Oniru after being mobilized to put out the blazing fire, which was already well alight when they arrived. However, the fire was contained in a five-story structure used to store and sell flammable items like shoes, bags, jewelry, and other goods.

It began on the second floor and moved up to the first, fourth, and fifth floors before being contained. She claimed firefighters from the federal, state, and police agencies were battling the blaze. She mentioned that a preliminary examination found that the fire’s origin could be traced to an electrical surge that occurred as the community’s power was restored after an earlier blackout.
