Black Sherif, Gyakie, And Tyla Receive Nominations At The 2024 Ghana Music Awards

Notable musicians Tyla, Gyakie, and Black Sherif have surfaced as strong contenders for the coveted honors in the most recent announcement of the nominees for the renowned Ghana Music Awards.

This year’s ceremony aims to celebrate 25 years of showcasing the top musicians in the business and honoring their hard work and dedication. June 1, 2024 has been set aside for the main awards event, which is being supported by Telecel.

South African musician Tyla, who recently created history by being the first artist to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 with her song “Water,” is among the nominees, along with Gyakie and Black Sherif, two sensations from Ghana. Gyakie, a fast-rising star in the Ghanaian music industry, is best known for her hits like Need Me and Forever.

Conversely, Black Sherif, who just took home the Best International Flow trophy from the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, is still making headlines with his distinct sound. Black Sherif, the largest winner of the previous year, who won five out of his nominations, including the Artist of the Year title, is up for six nominations at the 2024 TGMAs.

Following the telco’s confirmation as the new headline sponsor, the awards—formerly known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs)—are now called as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
