Canadian Sync Awards 2023 Winners

A Night Of Musical Excellence. Cody Partridge Of Pear Tree Music Supervision Shines With Three Wins

he Guild of Music Supervisors, Canada (GMSC) and Canadian Music Week (CMW) have unveiled the winners of the 2023 Canadian Sync Awards. The spotlight was on Cody Partridge of Pear Tree Music Supervision, who walked away with three prestigious awards.

The awards ceremony took place on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto. The event was enlivened by performances from Preston Pablo, Milk & Bone, and Adria Kain, adding a vibrant musical backdrop to the evening.

The Canadian Sync Awards is an annual event that recognizes the artistry of music supervision in filmed media in Canada. The awards feature 15 categories, with eight of them being decided by public voting.

Among the winners, Cody Partridge stood out, bagging the Best Sync awards for a Sports Program, an Episodic Series (Drama or Comedy), and a Soundtrack for a Feature or Documentary Film. His work on the 2022/2023 IIHF World Juniors of Hockey (Canada v. Czechia Finals Promo), the episodic series Shoresy, and the film Bandit was recognized and celebrated.

The Best Sync – Commercial award went to Everton Lewis, Jr for his work on the Apple AirPods 2022 commercial. Natasha Duprey was recognized for her work on the soundtracks of the episodic series Let The Right One In (Season 1) and Kids In The Hall (Season 1), winning the Best Sync awards in the Drama and Comedy categories respectively.

The Best Sync – Scene, Feature or Documentary Film award was given to Sean Mulligan and Victoria Beard for their work on Fancy Dance. The TV Movie category saw Emma Lewicky and Hollie Sanders winning for their work on A Picture of Her.

In the team categories, Universal Music and Universal Music Publishing Group won the Best Sync Team awards for Major Record Label and Major Music Publisher respectively. Six Shooter Records and Third Side Music were recognized as the Best Sync Teams in the Indie Record Label and Indie Music Publisher categories. The Greater Goods Co. was named the Best Sync Agency.

The Best Sync Artist award was given to Tanya Tagaq. The ceremony also saw Marlon Knight being honored with “The Huey” Award, a tribute to legendary music supervisor David Hayman. The award, which includes a $1500 honorarium, is given to an aspiring music supervisor who shows a deep passion for the craft.

The Huey Award
The Canadian Sync Awards also presented the “The Huey” Award to Marlon Knight. The Huey Award honours legendary music supervisor David Hayman, who passed away in May 2020. “The Huey”, which includes a $1500 honorarium, is bestowed upon an aspiring music supervisor who has passion for the craft.
