Ckay Continues To Break Records, Sets New African Record With ‘CKay the First’

The second Extended Playlist by multi-platinum-selling musician CKay, titled “CKay the First,” has amassed the most streams of any African act in Spotify history.

The EP, which debuted on August 30, 2019, has received more than 661 million streams, surpassing Burna Boy’s “African Giant,” which had 660.9 million streams.
It was self-produced by CKay with help from Tempoe and Real Btee, and DJ Lambo, BOJ, Blaqbonez, and Barry Jhay made guest appearances.

Notable is the fact that the multiple-time global chart-topper and award-winning Nigerian singer has kept breaking records. He was the first artist from Africa to exceed one billion Spotify streams. Also, he performed at the CHAN Finals and had over 40,000 supporters sing the hit song “Love Nwantiti” off the EP.

After selling over 240,000 units, the song received a 3x Platinum certification in Canada. In addition, it received a gold certification in Denmark after selling over 45,000 units.
It has been certified platinum in Poland after selling more than 50,000 units, according to statements revealed to the public by the statistics-checking media. Furthermore, after selling over 20,000 units, it has earned Spain’s gold certification. Also, it made the platinum certification in the United States after selling over 1,000,000 copies, in the United Kingdom after selling over 600,000 copies, and in Italy after selling more than 70,000 copies.

In addition, “Love Nwantiti” helped CKay become the first African artist to surpass 30 million monthly Spotify listeners, a record later reinforced by “Emiliana,” another international mega-single. As a result, the singer, producer, and songwriter has garnered numerous honors and has been endorsed by multiple global brands. This worldwide success has culminated in the release of his debut album, “Sad Romance.”
