“Essence” By Wizkid And Tems Certified 4X Platinum By The United States’ RIAA

The multi-award-winning musician Wizkid is still going strong in his career as his popular song Essence with Tems reaches a new high, earning a 4X RIAA platinum plaque for selling more than four million copies in the US. Reports that were published online on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, disclosed this.

The song is one of the most well-known Afrobeats exports and is featured on Wizkid’s fourth album Made In Lagos. It has had tremendous international success. Essence has received tremendous commercial success since its 2020 release, especially in the US, where it peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart thanks to a Justin Bieber remix.

Influential American rapper, Kanye West, declared the song to be the “greatest song in the history of music,” which sent it skyrocketing in popularity. Essence demonstrated its influence on the world music scene by winning the Collaboration of the Year award at the 2021 BET Awards and being nominated for Best Global Song Performance at the 64th Grammy Awards.

Notably, Tems became the first female Nigerian musician to have a single debut on the Billboard Hot 100 thanks to Essence, which also thrust her into the global spotlight. She also became the first Nigerian singer to debut at No. 1 on the list and the first Nigerian female musician to win a Grammy Award thanks to her collaboration with Future on the song Wait For U.
