King Promise Grosses Over 100M Streams On Boomplay

Boomplay, a streaming service focused on Africa, has recognized Ghanaian popstar King Promise for reaching 100 million streams on the platform and inducted him into its Golden Club.

The singer joins local peers Black Sherif, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Kuami Eugene, and Gyakie in participating in Boomplay’s Golden Club, one of the streamer’s premier artist programs comprised of singers with distinctive record milestones.

With this achievement, King Promise joins the ranks of other African artists, such as Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Rayvanny, and Nigeria’s Wizkid, Davido, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, and Omah Lay.

King Promise, born Gregory Bortey Newman, whose music blends Afrobeats and highlife, discovered his musical prowess after an unplanned recording session while visiting an acquaintance.

Afterwards, he met producer Killbeatz, who helped launch his now thriving career as a singer and composer. The singer has had an amazing run of great singles since the release of his debut single, “Oh Yeah,” including “Selfish,” “CCTV,” “Slow Down,” and “Terminator,” in addition to two acclaimed albums, As Promised and 5 Star.

He also bagged a contract with Sony Music Entertainment UK in 2022 under the 5K Records label. Meanwhile, this week has seen Boomplay milestones for singer Kizz Daniel and rapper Odumodublvck in neighboring Nigeria. While Kizz Daniel celebrated one billion plays, months after Burna Boy did, Odumodublvck crossed the 100 million stream threshold.
