Mo Abudu’s Two Short Films Are Now Qualified For Oscars Consideration

Mo Abudu, a Nigerian media entrepreneur, filmmaker, and CEO of EbonyLife Media, has just announced that “Her Perfect Life” and “Iyawo Mi (My Wife),” two of her short films, are now eligible for Oscars. The short films compete in the “Live Action Short Film” category for an Oscar. On her Instagram page, the celebrated filmmaker broke the great news.

Pearl Thusi, Joseph Benjamin, Omawunmi Dada, Mary Lazarus, Christian Paul, and Uzo Osimpka are the main cast of “Her Perfect Life” while actors Jude Chukwuka, Segun Arinze, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Adedimeji Lateef all appear in “Iyawo Mi.”

Mo Abudu chose to take on the twin duties of writer and director for two compelling short films, marking her directorial debut in a career spanning over 20 years as an executive producer. At EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island, Lagos, Abudu had also hosted a private screening for her two new creations.

Gracing the event were celebrated folks from entertainment and business, making it quite the star-studded audience. As an executive producer, Abudu—who is highly recognized for her innovative contributions to the Nigerian entertainment sector—has mentored a number of narrative-changing storytelling initiatives.

Her latest endeavor is a significant turning point in both her career and personal life. Yes, the short films may be fictional stories, but they do a great job at highlighting global issues related to mental health, particularly the “taboo topics” associated with mental health in the Nigerian society.
