“Murder On The Dancefloor” Achieves US Charts Peak Courtesy Of “Saltburn”

Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s timeless classic ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ has returned triumphantly to the Official Singles Chart, reaching Number 2 this week. Its resurgence in popularity is seen in its inclusion in the Emerald Fennell-directed film ‘Saltburn’. The song, released initially on Sophie’s debut album ‘Read My Lips’ in 2001, has been a favourite of dance music fans for the past two decades. One question on the lips of many fans of the series is this: Will Murder on the Dancefloor’s remix EP and Saltburn-branded reissues help it climb the charts?

Last week, it made a spectacular comeback to the Top 10, and this week, it has climbed even higher, moving up six spots to reach the Number 2 position. Only Noah Kahan’s chart-topping single ‘Stick Season’ had more streams in the UK this week, with 7.5 million streams. Moreover, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ has earned the most one-week streams since its release, with a whopping 4.7 million UK streams over the past seven days, beating its previous record. The song’s irresistible beats, catchy lyrics, and Sophie’s unique vocals have once again captivated listeners and made it a must-listen for music lovers all around the world.

With 4.7 million UK streams over the previous seven days, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ has surpassed Sophie’s most outstanding performance from last week, earning the highest one-week streams since its debut. After appearing in Saltburn, which is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and stars Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, and Rosamund Pike, the song experienced a boom in popularity. The music is practically unavoidable on social media since it appears in a standout sequence starring Keoghan’s character, Oliver Quick. “Murder on the Dancefloor” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 list last week, peaking at number 98, marking a significant accomplishment for Sophie. As a result, it became Sophie’s first-ever American chart entry.

Sophie recently spoke about Murder’s Renaissance in an interview with Official Charts.

“I’m always very connected to my music, and one thing I’ve always loved about my work is its ability to surprise me. Murder on the Dancefloor is a song I’ve been singing for 20 years, and I’m on really good terms with it. I love singing it, I love performing it and what’s happening at the moment is kind of magical, actually.

“Thank you [to all the fans new and old streaming the song] for such a magical adventure. I’m so proud of Murder on the Dancefloor, but I also share it with everybody who has love for it. I’m just having so much fun. Thank you!”
