Producer Philkeys Reveals Reason Why He Rejected Kizz Daniel’s First Approach To Collaborate
When artists blow up and become big brands, it’s common to hear tales of their upcoming days and the disappointments/rejections they sometimes face. The artiste in focus is famous singer Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel, who once offered to pay Nigerian music producer Philip Ahaiwe Chukwuja, Philkeys, N50,000 for a studio session.
According to Philkeys, he claimed it was purely business and that Kizz Daniel was still a rising star when he extended the off. Still, hehe declined it because his fees at the time exceeded that sum, and he was already working with renowned musician King Sunny Ade.
In a recent interview with MTV Base Africa, Philkeys said he waited in vain for Kizz to call back after reconsidering the initial turndown. He added that Kizz called him again after the “Woju” crooner gained popularity. The two of them went on to collaborate on several songs, and Philkeys was even signed to Fly Boi Inc at the time. Philkeys mentioned in the interview that collaborating with the “Woju” crooner was a great experience as they shared a strong musical chemistry. He further expressed his excitement about working together on multiple songs, which allowed them to explore different genres and create unique music.
He said;
“He reached out to me. He was not signed then. He told me that he had a certain amount of money, I think N50k, that he wanted to work with me.
“But my charges don pass N50k by that time wey I come dey work for Sunny Ade. That time I be big boy. I was like, ‘No o, I’m not doing.’
“I was gonna see if he was going to call me back, but he didn’t call me back, so we just allowed that part to slide. Then, when he blew up, he called me back, saying he wanted to work with me.”
