Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ tops the Indian Music Industry chart week of January 9th, 2023, as it begins 2023 as the number one single in India. The mega-hit remix featuring Selena Gomez tops the chart, which also includes Sam Smith, Chris Brown, and Glass Animals in the top ten. ‘Until I Found You’ by Stephen Sanchez and Em Beihold is at No. 2, ‘Unholy’ by Sam Smith and Kim Petra is at No. 3, ‘Dandelions’ by Ruth B is at No. 4, and ‘Under The Influence’ by Chris Brown closes out the top 5.
Reacting to the feat, Rema shared a screenshot of the Indian chart on his Instagram page alongside a short clip of him from an interview he did in the UK. In the brief footage, Rema shared his ambitions of taking over international zones like India, mainly because his sound has been tagged “Indian” or “Arabian.” However, the singer said those remarks do not get under his skin. Instead, it motivates him to continue pushing the African sound across the continent’s shores.
His song topping the Indian chart coincides with his going number one on the Billboard Global Songs chart, and with the same song, which made him the first Nigerian artist to ascend that height.
