Drawing parallels from his own life, Kuti recounted the challenges he faced growing up as the son of the legendary Afrobeats pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. He expressed his bewilderment at the disdain some held for his father, despite Fela’s significant contributions to music and activism. Seun mentioned, “Being Fela’s son, growing up in Nigeria, I couldn’t even enter my girlfriend’s father’s house. I would wonder, ‘Why do people dislike my father so much?’ But I knew him personally; he was a cool guy. So, what was it about him that people didn’t like?”
Kuti further highlighted the fickle nature of public opinion, noting that individuals who criticize politicians often end up praising their offspring, primarily if financial incentives are involved. He stated, “I looked at all politicians’ children; the same people who criticize Tinubu today will praise his children tomorrow because of money.”
