Shallipopi’s Success On Music Charts Criticized By Portable, Who Accuses Him Of Cheating

In the wake of Shallipopi’s sophomore album Shakespopi’s popularity, popular Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, has taken aim at his colleague Crown Uzama, popular as Shallipopi.

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, Portable decided to vent his frustration on Instagram Stories after Shallipopi’s latest album eclipsed his hit song Tony Montana on Apple Music Nigeria. When it was released on March 1, 2024, Tony Montana by Portable, which features British-Nigerian rapper Skepta, was the top song on the platform.

But Shallipopi’s Shakespopi record, which was made available on Friday, April 12, 2024, managed to knock Tony Montana out of the top spot on the charts and move it up to number 10. Puzzled by his album’s unexpected chart supremacy, Portable accused Shallipopi of utilizing streaming farms to enhance the album’s performance.

Shallipopi’s music was questioned by Portable in his remark, criticizing his new project every chance he got.

“Tony Montana” has now been surpassed by nine hits from Shakespopi in the streaming charts. This comes less than six months since Shallipopi dropped his highly-anticipated debut album, Presido La Pluto, to critical acclaim.

The continuous dispute draws attention to how fiercely competitive the Nigerian music scene is, with musicians fighting to stay well-known on streaming services. Shallipopi has not yet replied to Portable’s allegations.
