The critically acclaimed singer-songwriter WurlD is back with a brand-new EP, “Don’t Get Used To This.” WurlD is a true visionary and a distinctive genius who created a sound he calls Afrosoul by fusing the catchy rhythms of Afrobeats with the witty songwriting and soaring vocal melodies of soul and R&B.

“Don’t Get Used To This” is WurlD’s most rhythmically stable work to date; it captures the unique energy of Lagos, Nigeria, where he recently resumed performing live. This also marks his first EP under Addictive Content, a new label he founded to highlight the sounds and talent of Africa’s future.

WurlD lets his sharp melodies and potent hooks do the talking throughout the eight-track EP, which is produced mainly by a couple of up-and-coming producers. Also, there are no guest features, save for his collaboration with Sarz.  This is WurlD’s fifth studio project in five years, and a follow-up to 2022’s “My World With U.”

Tracks and Features

A beautiful symphony, “DGUTT (Intro),” starts the extended play, with WurlD humming over the beautiful blend of heavy jazz-influenced instrumentals. Then when you don’t expect it, the singer transforms into a spoken word poet, setting the mood for the project. In “Do It,” the singer flexes his vocal range and strength as he sings to his lover about how everything he does is for her. WurlD expresses his emotions through brilliant songwriting and isn’t afraid to get a little vulnerable with his boo thang if it gets her to really understand his desires.

WurlD keeps the romantic vibe going with “Company,” where he sings about his need for his woman’s presence and how much he loves being around her. For her company, which he cannot get enough of, he is willing to do whatever she wanted. WurlD’s lovely melodies, flow, and the beat have a wonderful synergy.

For “Location,” he teams up with Sarz, and they create magic as is expected of their combo. Drawing some inspo from the theme of the previous track, WurlD could really use a getaway for a change. And where else would he rather be than with a woman. His woman. So, he asks her to inform him where’s she’s at by sending her location. And for the track’s production, the beat flows and bounces like a masterpiece crafted by an experienced sound man. You can tell both musicians understood their roles clearly.

For someone who has been singing about love from track one, it becomes confusing when you hear WurlD in “Shake” singing about being scared of love and wanting just the physical touch. Makes you wonder if the love expressed in previous tracks was only a means to an end. But how he flawlessly delivers in this song completely absolves him of all sins because somehow, you will find your body shaking to this banger. Awesome production too.

Coming down to one of the best, if not the best track on the project, “Sarafina,” WurlD gives us a melodic anthem. Complementing his amazing songwriting skills, WurlD sings with a passion and calmness that makes you understand he means business with Sarafina. He took the melodies a higher level with that beautiful chorus that is bound to leave you hooked like an unlucky fish.

Over a chill bounce, WurlD praises and appreciates his woman in “Melanin Riddim.” He swears to her that his love is true as he takes it upon himself to convince her beyond reasonable doubt that she’s indeed the right one for him, which he believes everyone else would agree with.

Closing the EP with “Sare,” WurlD, after having preached the gospel of love throughout the project, wants his love interest to simply make up her mind on his matter instead of wasting any more time. The best was definitely not left for last, but it came out nice, regardless.
