Abdullahi Abacha, Son of Late Nigerian Military Ruler, Dies at 36
General Sani Abacha’s former military ruler of Nigeria, Abdullahi Abacha, is dead at the age of 36. Several people were shocked to learn about Abdullahi’s untimely death because he was reportedly in good health the night before.
Fatimah Gumsu Abacha-Buni, Abdullahi’s sister and the First Lady of Yobe State, posted an announcement of her brother’s passing on social media and urged people to remember him in their prayers. “He died while sleeping. Ameen. May Allah pardon his transgressions and grant him Jannat ul Firdaus (heaven). Kindly remember him in your prayers,” She wrote.
From November 1993 to June 1998, when his father, Sani Abacha, was in charge, there were numerous instances of political persecution, corruption, and human rights violations.
Abdullahi led a quiet life and avoided politics despite the scandals surrounding his father’s presidency. He was reportedly reclusive and wanted to stick to himself and avoid the spotlight.
The Abacha family, who have been involved in several issues over the years, have once again come under the spotlight as a result of the tragic death of Abdullahi Abacha. General Sani Abacha’s totalitarian authority and the pervasive corruption that marked his government are still remembered.
Under Sani Abacha’s leadership, the Abacha family is said to have stolen billions of dollars from the Nigerian treasury. The Abacha family’s Swiss bank accounts included $1 billion, which the Nigerian government was able to recover in 2014. This was the highest amount of money ever returned to Nigeria.
