MC Oluomo Denies Threats Against Igbos

Nigeria’s gubernatorial elections have been tainted by controversy in the state of Lagos, with Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, sparking anger with his recent threats against Igbos in the state. However, the police have disregarded the threats, calling them a joke. The commissioner denounced any act, comment, or activity that could be interpreted as hate speech or aggravating political tension, regardless of who might be behind it.

In an online video, MC Oluomo was seen cautioning Igbos in Lagos State against voting for any party other than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying they should “sit at home” if they don’t plan to vote for APC. The video sparked anger, with many accusing MC Oluomo of hate speech and intimidation.

Nonetheless, the Nigeria Police Force has disregarded the threats as a joke. Force spokesman, Adejobi Olumuyiwa, said that nobody has the right to prevent the people of Lagos from voting for the contender of their choice and confirmed that the Lagos State Police Command had initiated an investigation into MC Oluomo’s remarks. The commissioner said that it is currently a subject of a detailed investigation. He emphasized that the police command would leave no stone unturned in its efforts to ensure that the upcoming gubernatorial elections in the state are free and fair.

In another video, MC Oluomo asked the public to count him out of the alleged threat against Igbos in the state ahead of the governorship and state assembly elections. He made the disclaimer in a video posted on Twitter, stating that Mama Chukwudi, whom he claimed is his sister, was present at the meeting where he spoke, and that she was the one he was referring to when he said, “Iya Chukwudi if you know you’re not voting for me, sit at your home.”

MC Oluomo said that he’s always after the peace of Lagos and that if people don’t come out to vote, there would be no way to get the vote. He reiterated that he would never say people should not come out to vote on an election day and that his interest is in ensuring peace in Lagos.
