“Pushing P,” What Does It Mean?

Other alphabets are probably very jealous of how much the letter P is being pushed everywhere on the internet and social media, generating a whole lot of memes, as expected.

But if you’re still lost, not knowing the hype around this trend, you are in the right place. So buckle up and ready yourself for takeoff!

How and where on earth did Pushing P originate from?

Some days before the official release of Gunna’s new album, DS4EVER, he began talking about pushing P on both his Instagram and Twitter pages. He went as far as asking fans to take a wild guess what that phrase could mean.

At the time when all of that was still going down, he was caught in the middle of a beef with rapper Freddie Gibbs, and a short while after teasing a potential diss song for Gibbs, he went ahead to tweet, “But yeah, I’m pushin P.”

Furthering the P movement, later the same day, still in dissing spirits, he goes on a short rant, using his catchphrase.

“Jumping in a person’s beef or situation when you don’t know what’s going on is not P,” he stated.

Loaded with more examples to give for better understanding, Gunna added, “Now… putting your people in position is P. Bossing your b*tch up is P. Risking your life to feed your family is P. Being a real n***a off the internet is P. I’m pushing P. Speaking on a n***a for no reason is not P.”

And just like that, a new phrase was birthed, or to be more precise, a new phrase blew up in the mainstream, for this so-called phrase gaining so much traction had already been in use as a regional term in places like the Bay Area and Texas for years.

What is P?

Like you should’ve already started picking up by now, P is a term for Positivity. So if you’re pushing P, it basically means you’re holding things down and keeping them real, behaving responsibly.

P formerly used to be a word that stood for “player”, but the YSL rapper has explained that the word’s meaning is fairly flexible.

He also clarified some of the nuances of the word shortly after the album dropped, pointing out, “P don’t just mean player. P means paper, too. You can be pushing this P with paper.”

Apparently, there’s also a subtle but important difference between “kicking P” and “pushing P.” When you’re making foolish financial decisions, you’re kicking P. But when you’re on your grind, taking care of both yourself and your family, then you are most definitely pushing P.
