Cher’s Request For Emergency Temporary Conservatorship Over Son, Denied

Remember Cher? She is in the news as she has been denied a request for an emergency temporary conservatorship over her son, Elijah Blue Allman.

This comes after the “Believe” singer requested a conservatorship last month out of concern for her son’s reported “severe” drug misuse problems. She said that Allman was “currently unable to manage his assets due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues” and that the conservatorship was “urgently needed.” Cher’s lawyer reportedly referred to the conservatorship as “a life-and-death proposition,” sighting the son’s struggle with mental illness and addiction. Interestingly, Allman gets money from a trust that his late father, Allman Brothers Band member Gregg Allman, set up, and word on the streets has many on Allman’s legal corner, thinking she is only after getting her hands on his money.

Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui of the Los Angeles Superior Court denied Cher’s plea on January 5, ruling that the conservatorship would not proceed because Cher’s attorneys had not given Allman’s lawyers enough time to prepare their case. On January 29, there will, nevertheless, be another hearing. As Allman’s personally chosen attorneys were not given access to case files by Cher’s attorneys on Thursday, Uzcategui declared that she was not “persuaded.” Instead, they spoke with his lawyer, assigned by the court, while his attorneys took his place during the hearing. Allman claimed a conservatorship was not required in a court document before Friday’s session. He stated that he is receiving medical attention from a physician, has been sober for more than three months, attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and is willing to submit to drug testing.
