The media recently attended the official launch of a music talent show initiated by Nigerian entertainer and Afrobeat superstar Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, also known as D’banj. This program aims to revolutionize music talent sourcing in a unique way that has never been done before.

Concerns have been raised about the music talent shows in Nigeria, as they seem only to showcase a specific genre of music and ignore the rather “raw talent” found on the streets. It is disappointing that artists in the moulds such as Seyi Vibez, Portable, Asake, and Odumodu Blcvk are often overlooked and rarely given a chance to perform on these platforms. Even when they do participate, they are seldom recognized or rewarded for their talents.

During the launch of his new music talent show, “Best Of The Street,” D’Banj emphasized that the CREAM initiative is geared towards discovering street sensations even as his partnership with M&E Music Company gains solid ground. He further disclosed that he would partner with notable sponsors such as MTN and a new digital bank called “Parallax.”

At the show’s official launch of season 2, D’Banj mentioned that registration with only N100 gives contestants a chance to win N25m and a record deal. He also informed the audience that this talent show is not new and that Mr Real, a well-known street-pop sensation, is a product of the CREAM initiative.

During the show’s first season, D’Banj was able to produce successful artists, Pablo Spragra and Mr Real, without any sponsorship from organizations. As a result, he has decided to elevate the show to a new level. Olufemi Nojeemdeen Bakre, CEO of the fast-rising digital bank, Parallax, attended the launch event. He shared that his firm is the first Nigerian bank to have a dedicated desk for the creative industry. Bakre also expressed his pride in his son, Tobi Bakre, who transitioned from a former Big Brother Naija star to a thriving entertainer and actor.

Bakre shared that his sons pursuing careers in media and entertainment inspired him to support the CREAM initiative. In his own words:

“Despite our newness and freshness, our collaboration with C.R.E.A.M has been profitable. Parallex prides itself on the pillar of partnership and is particular about success stories.”

During a conversation, D’banj clarified that CREAM stands for “Creative Reality Entertainment Arts and Music.” He announced that the winner of the new season of the “Best Of The Street” Music talent show would receive N25 million, a new car, a $100k record deal, and support to release an album produced by D’banj himself. The launch event was attended by other notable industry figures such as filmmaker Toyin Abraham, skit maker Mr Macaroni, and former BBNaija contestant Tobi Bakre.

The superstar has recently been in the news as reports confirmed that Nigerian singer, D’banj, located a market woman who gained popularity after a video of her went viral on social media. A blogger had posted a video of the woman expressing her intention to start a business and support her children with just $1. D’banj saw the video and embarked on a search to find her, expressing his desire to bless her for her selfless act. According to a post by singer-turned-blogger, Tundeednut, the artist successfully found the woman and gifted her N2m to support her and her children.
