Little Mix’s Perrie Debuts Solo Single ‘Forget About Us’ Co-written With Ed Sheeran

Perrie Edwards, formerly of the group Little Mix, has recently released her debut solo single entitled ‘Forget About Us’. It serves as the commencement of her solo career and is a collaboration with Ed Sheeran, David Hodges, and Steve Solomon. Hodges has previously worked with Kelly Clarkson and Christina Perri. In a recent interview, Perrie expressed that the song is an anthem, perfect for “cruising with the roof down in the wind.” The lyrics of the song reflect on past relationships. Perrie expanded on her views regarding the song, which is poignant and reflective.

“I look back on past relationships and do think happily about those times,”

“Do I want to be there now? No. It didn’t work out that way and if it was supposed to be it would have happened. Relationships have been a huge part of my life and they’ve made me who I am now. I think it’s a nice sentiment to be honest about and it’s super relatable.”

Perrie Edwards found fame after winning The X Factor in 2011 as part of the girl group Little Mix. During their 11 years together, the group became one of the most successful girl bands in history, selling millions of records and winning multiple awards. However, in December 2020, they decided to take an indefinite hiatus and pursue their solo careers.

Jesy Nelson was the first member to leave the group before the hiatus to focus on her solo career. She released the single ‘Boyz, featuring Nicki Minaj, which sparked some online controversy. The remaining members, Leigh-Ann Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, also released solo projects during the hiatus. Pinnock starred in the Christmas movie ‘Boxing Day’ before signing with Warner Records, while Thirlwall signed a global deal with RCA Records and wrote songs for artists such as TWICE, Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears. Perrie has been working on her debut solo album, which she confirmed last month was complete. The album features collaborations with Raye and Ed Sheeran, and although she hasn’t shared many details about it, she revealed that her favourite song on the album is one she wrote about her son Axel. She also explained how she came up with ‘Forget About Us’, a track on the album she co-wrote with friends.

“So, Ed [Sheeran] sent me the song and at the time, the lyrics and concept were very direct to what it was about. And I rang him and was like, ‘Would you mind if I just tweaked little bits? I’m not going to just be on the writing credits for the craic because that gives me the ick, I hate when people do that. I don’t want to take away [the fact] you produced and wrote this song [and] sent it to me. I just want to tweak it lyrically so it’s more me and where I’m at in my life now.’”

“And he was totally cool with it, he was so supportive,”

“He was like, ‘I want you to take full ownership in it – whatever you’re not comfortable with, change it, and we’ll work on it from there.’ So I did a session on Zoom and we kind of got it to where it is now. I’m really happy.”

During the group’s hiatus, the members of Little Mix have been pursuing their solo careers, and it remains to be seen if and when they will reunite.
