On October 27, 2023, Mr Eazi, a global nomad, business tycoon, and music superstar, will finally release his long-awaited debut solo album. Pre-orders for the 16-track album are currently available at designated platforms. The announcement coincides with the release of the lead single “Chop Time, No Friend” and its music video, which director Allison Swank Owen shot in Dakar, Senegal. A playful return to the Banku Music sound that Mr Eazi pioneered and made popular with his early singles and mixtapes can be heard on ‘Chop Time, No Friend.’ Mr Eazi asserts:

“Chop Time, No Friend is a very common Ghanaian saying, something you will see written on the front or side of buses, “It means when you are eating, you don’t think about anybody. You are just focused on your enjoyment.”

The song’s lyrics are a way for Eazi to communicate how he doesn’t let haters stop him from enjoying the benefits of his success. Eazi claims:

“It is touching on how people chitchat on me, but I am still focused on my enjoyment,”  “It is a declaration, a celebration of self. I am saying everything I touch turns to gold. You can’t trouble me.”

Andre Vibez, the beatmaker behind Rema and Selena Gomez’s Billboard Top 10 single “Calm Down” and Ghana’s Killbeatz who has worked with Ed Sheeran and was a significant contributor to Mr Eazi’s ground-breaking 2017 mixtape “Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1: Accra to Lagos,” collaborated to create ‘Chop Time, No Friend.’ The video was directed by Allison Swank Owen, who had previously worked with Mr Eazi on “Lagos to London: The Documentary” in 2019. Dakar, Senegal’s incredible creative energy served as inspiration. Mr Eazi stated:

“We wanted to feature the fine artists, fashion designers, and everyday activities that make Dakar an inspiring place to be,”

While the upcoming album’s name is unknown, Mr Eazi has revealed the complete list of producers who worked on it. These artists include Andre Vibez and Killbeatz, in addition to Kel-P from Nigeria, Knucks from the United Kingdom, Michael Brun from Haiti, M.O.G Beatz from Ghana, E Kelly from Nigeria, Type A from Nigeria, Stikmatik from the United Kingdom, Yung Willis from Nigeria, Phantom from Nigeria, Nonso Amadi from Nigeria/Canada, KDream from Nigeria, and Mr Eazi himself.

Mr Eazi has commissioned a different African visual artist to create a one-of-a-kind, physical art piece to represent each track on the album, creating a first-of-its-kind fusion of African music and art. For “Chop Time, No Friend,” he worked with visual artist Sinalo Ngcaba of Johannesburg, South Africa, whose work is also featured on the cover of Mr Eazi’s most recent album with ChopLife Soundsystem, Chop Life, Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles.
