Tems Bags A Golden Globe Awards Nomination

Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, is a celebrated Nigerian singer who just received a nomination for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture for her work on the soundtrack for Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s “Lift Me.” Along with Rihanna, Ludwig Göransson, and Ryan Coogler, who contributed substantially to the song, the Nigerian superstar was nominated for the honor. The song, which was performed by Rihanna and made available on November 4 by Tems, was co-written. The music honored Chadwick Boseman, who played the franchise’s leading man before passing away in 2020 after a fight with colon cancer.

Tems learned of the new nomination and showed her excitement on social media. Taking to Twitter, the renowned musician quoted an original tweet by Marvel Studios and wrote, “My God!! this one is too much,” ending it with a love emoji. Another success for the 27-year-old performer is this nomination for a Golden Globe. She became the first Nigerian singer to ever debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and since then, her star power has grown. For her contribution to the “Essence” remix, she and Wizkid received the first-ever Favorite Afrobeats Artist award at the 2022 American Music Awards earlier this year. The same song was also nominated for a Grammy Award in Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song categories for her.
