Teni Reveals Throat Infection During Second Album Preparations

In preparation for the November 17 release of her second album, “Tears of the Sun,” Teni, a Nigerian Afrobeats songstress, has opened up about how she battled a potentially fatal throat infection while getting ready to release her second album—this is the reason for her weight loss that got netizens talking. Teni disclosed that she was diagnosed with the virus and required several injections during the album production process in a video that was uploaded to her Instagram page.

Teni claimed that she could hardly talk or sing because of how bad the sickness was. She added that she had to shed a lot of weight and that she was in pain all the time. Numerous Nigerian musicians, like Tekno and the late Sound Sultan, have also previously been linked to similar throat issues. This served as the inspiration for her most recent song, “Malaika,” in which she thanked God for getting through the hardship. Teni’s struggle with her voice and the physical toll it took on her body resonated with many other Nigerian musicians facing similar challenges. Through her song “Malaika,” she not only expressed gratitude for overcoming the hardship but also shed light on a common yet often unspoken issue in the music industry.
