Teyana Taylor Releases New Song Snippet 3 Years After Announced Retirement

After announcing that she was leaving the music industry at the end of 2020, Teyana Taylor could have had a change of heart.

Wednesday, January 3, the multihyphenate shared a sneak peek of a new song on her Instagram Story, which might have been influenced by her recent breakup with husband Iman Shumpert.

Taking to Instagram Live in December 2020, the K.T.S.E. singer vented her displeasure with her label home Def Jam, saying she never felt supported by them, that she was sick of the politics in music in general, and that she was seeking to retire.

Many of her contemporaries, including The Game and the renowned Janet Jackson, responded to her message with overwhelming support; nonetheless, she seemed to keep her word and concentrate on other projects.

While she was gone from music, she worked as a creative director for other musicians, such as Summer Walker and Latto, and she landed movie parts that even Barack Obama praised. Teyana was obviously overjoyed when her drama A Thousand and One was included in the list of the former President’s top 2023 films.

Taylor plays the major character of Inez in the film directed by A.V. Rockwell. Inez is a mother who kidnaps her son to escape the foster care system and uses her second opportunity to start a new life for herself and her son in New York City.
