Usher Shares On His First Celebrity Crush

According to recent reports, Usher and Chilli’s romantic relationship may have started before. In a recent interview with Essence, the R&B star was named “Sexiest Men of the Moment” and was asked about his love life, during which he revealed that Chilli was his first celebrity crush. It is heartening to see that both Usher and Chilli have moved on positively since their separation in 2004. Usher also recently announced his marriage to his girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea.

Usher recently shared an interesting anecdote about his childhood admiration for Chilli, a member of the iconic R&B group TLC. He fondly recalled having a crush on her as young as eight and even having her poster on his wall. Despite his young age, he held onto the hope that he would one day meet her. It’s heartwarming to see a successful artist like Usher open up about his past and share a relatable moment from his childhood.

He said,

“Imma be real honest with y’all today,”

“Chilli was my first celebrity crush. I think I was 11 or 12, something like that.”

“At the age of 8, I put her poster on my wall and said, ‘Man that girl is so beautiful. One day, I’m going to meet her,’”

In 1993, Usher Raymond and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, a popular girl group TLC member, became romantically involved and dated for three years before parting ways. It was previously speculated that the breakup inspired Usher’s fourth studio album, Confessions. However, in 2013, Chilli clarified that their separation was amicable and not the result of any wrongdoing on either side. She stated that they mutually decided to end the relationship, ending any rumours of infidelity on Usher’s part. Chilli shared this information with Us Weekly.

“We were together when he recorded that album,”

“All of those songs on Confessions that were about Jermaine Dupri’s situation. Usher was just singing it. But people kind of bought into it, it was just the timing of our breakup when the album came out… So people assumed that album was about us, but it was not. And Usher and I weren’t oil and water. We broke up because I guess it was that time or whatever… He was that real love for me.”
