Coolio’s Tragic Death: Fentanyl Overdose Confirmed
According to a coroner’s report released by the rapper’s family, legendary rapper Coolio, well known for his single “Gangsta’s Paradise,” died of a fentanyl overdose. The family’s spokesman, Jarel “Jarez” Posey, confirmed the news to TMZ on Thursday, April 6, adding that Coolio (actual name Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) had a mix of heroin and methamphetamines in his bloodstream at the time of his death.
Coolio’s long-standing habit of smoking cigarettes, as well as his severe asthma, may have contributed to his body’s inability to fight back, culminating to his unfortunate death on September 28, 2022, at the age of 59. He was discovered unresponsive in the house of a friend in Los Angeles and pronounced dead at the spot by paramedics, who initially thought he had suffered a heart arrest. According to reports, no drugs or paraphernalia were discovered near him.
Coolio’s seven children intend to memorialize their father’s legacy in the near future through various cinematic and documentary projects. According to The Blast, the rapper’s $300,000 fortune would be divided equally among his children because he did not leave a will.

Coolio’s daughters began designing pendants to be filled with their father’s ashes, and it was claimed that the remainder of his remains would be deposited in an urn after all of the necklaces, including those for further family members, were completed.
Coolio had big plans for the end of 2022 before his untimely death. He was about to sign a deal for a Las Vegas residency, in which he will headline 10 shows at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino from late October to mid-November. The rapper was also planning to resurrect his “Kwanzaa-bot” character for the Hulu relaunch of Futurama. The show will proceed with the character’s reappearance and devote the episode to Coolio’s memory, with his lines and a few bars already recorded.
While the hip-hop world mourns the loss of a great legend, Coolio’s family and friends are devoted to carrying on his legacy through planned projects and tributes.
