Davido Promises 300 Million Naira To Orphanages In Nigeria

Nigerian Afrobeat musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage as Davido, has announced that he will be giving N300 million to orphans all throughout the nation this year. The announcement couldn’t have come at a better time as Nigerians have been vehemently lamenting the high cost of living, food inflation, and general suffering in the country.

Davido clarified on Tuesday via X that his organization would oversee the coordination of the outreach. Davido claimed that he is continuing the yearly custom of giving back to the country that he established a few years prior. He said that information about the payout would be released shortly.

Nonetheless, OBO has a history of charity giving; in 2023, he donated N237 million to 424 orphanages. The gifts were given to 292 Nigerian orphans 16 months after he gave N250 million to them. Before his birthday in November 2021, Davido made a prank out of asking his coworkers to give him N1 million apiece.

Little did he know that this would become one of the biggest fundraisers in Nigeria history, as Davido raised N200 million in just 78 hours, and the contributions did not seem to stop even after his birthday had passed. The singer released a list of orphanages that received funding as well.
