Kanye West’s ” Graduation” Goes A Record Seven-time Platinum With New RIAA Certification
‘Graduation,’ Kanye West’s third studio album, has been recertified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) again. As of January 11, 2024, the classic album, first released in 2007, has received seven platinum certifications. Six prior platinum certifications for the record have already been added to its outstanding list of achievements. Some of the album’s best-known tracks have added new certificates to their already-existing ones. “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna and Kid Cudi, has attained seven-time platinum status. Concurrently, “Follow God” has achieved double platinum status, and “Runaway,” featuring Pusha T, has officially achieved five platinum status. In addition to these impressive certifications, the album’s timeless hit “Stronger” has recently reached triple platinum status, solidifying its enduring popularity. Furthermore, the track “Heartless” has garnered four platinum certifications, cementing its place as a fan favourite.
In a recent Drink Champs interview, Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def), one of hip-hop’s most respected lyricists, compared the impact of Graduation to that of Michael Jackson’s best-selling album, Thriller. Bey called Graduation a “thriller moment” for the hip-hop genre, citing its immense influence on the music industry. The interview also featured Dave Chappelle and Talib Kweli, two other influential figures in hip-hop and entertainment. During the interview, Dave Chappelle and Talib Kweli echoed Bey’s sentiments, expressing their admiration for Graduation and its significant contribution to the evolution of hip-hop. They emphasized how the album pushed boundaries and set a new standard for artistic excellence within the genre.
