Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ To Receive Musical Stage Adaptation

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the 1984 legendary film Purple Rain, directed by the late artist Prince, will be adapted for the stage. The stage adaptation will feature the iconic score of Prince and will be based on the original screenplay written by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn. It will be produced by Orin Wolf and directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, an accomplished director. The book for the stage version will be written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and the acclaimed playwright of the play ‘Appropriate.’

Purple Rain is a cult classic that follows the story of Prince as The Kid, a young musician navigating through Minneapolis while dealing with a volatile and abusive home life. The film was a massive success and grossed a whopping $70 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing musical dramas of its time. The movie achieved iconic status and was later selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.

The stage adaptation of Purple Rain is expected to capture the essence of the original film and bring the story to life in a new and exciting way. With a talented creative team behind the project, fans can look forward to a captivating theatrical experience that pays homage to the iconic legacy of Prince and his timeless music. L. Londell McMillan, chairman of The NorthStar Group, and Larry Mestel, founder and CEO of Primary Wave Music, said,
