At the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards, Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, the international sensation from Nigeria, will be taking home the coveted Breakthrough Award. On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, this was announced on the official Billboard Charts Instagram page.
With the success of her collaboration with Wizkid on the chart-topping song “Essence,” which marked her entry into the US music arena, this accolade confirms her expanding influence in the worldwide music landscape.

With the help of Drake and Future on the song “Wait for U,” the Grammy-winning musician won the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance. Tems, who is the second Nigerian to accomplish this amazing feat, made history by being the first African musician to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
