Timaya Charged With Song Infringement For “Dey your Dey”

Nigerian singer, Timaya, has been charged with stealing intellectual property. United Boys Culture, a music group, has charged Timaya with stealing songs. The group claimed that his most recent release, “Dey Your Dey,” unlawfully sampled their song of the same name.

The leader of the group asked Timaya not to steal their intellectual property in a video statement posted on their TikTok page. The leader of the Music Group claims that Timaya has previously done this. The group leader brought up an earlier instance in which he was accused of using their song “E Dey Sweet Us, E Dey Pain Dem” without permission.

The singer was urged by the group leader to respect their rights and get permission before remixing any of their tracks. Timaya has not yet reacted to the accusations. Apart from the accusations leveled against him, the Nigerian artist disclosed his battles with drug addiction.

Timaya recently disclosed in an interview with The Beat 99.9 FM that he first encountered narcotics in 2020, during the COVID-19 shutdown. He acknowledged that he has used narcotics in the past, despite his imperfections.

Timaya said that the substance felt quite nice when he first used it. Without really giving it much thought, he ended up giving away a large portion of his money.
