Usher Presented With The Prestigious Phoenix Award By The Mayor Of Atlanta

Usher has been winning accolades for his work this month; the mayor of Atlanta most recently gave him the coveted Phoenix Award. On Wednesday, February 14, Fox 5 Atlanta was present when the Confessions singer was given the honor by Mayor Andre Dickens and the City of Atlanta.

At the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame close to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, he received the Phoenix Award. Usher is not the first musician from the city of Atlanta to earn the Phoenix Award. Jermaine Dupri received the same award back in August. Its purpose is to reward those who have made exceptional contributions to the city of Atlanta.

At a Hip Hop 50 event, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens presented the honor to Dupri on stage, stating that it was the “highest award” he could offer anyone in the city. “Outstanding achievements and service to the city, state, nation, or world” are recognized with the Phoenix Award.

In addition to his extraordinary skill as a producer, Jermaine Dupri has a lengthy history of bringing out the best in the musicians he collaborates with. Usher has experienced a significant increase in streaming traffic after his appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The R&B icon’s record-breaking performance on Sunday, February 11, which was viewed by over 123 million people, has resulted in a 550 percent rise in Spotify streams.
