Chris Rock Biography

American stand-up comedian, actor, and director Christopher Julius Rock was born on February 7, 1965. He is well known for his film, television, and theater work. He has won numerous awards, including four Primetime Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and a Golden Globe Award nomination. He also won three Grammy Awards for the best comedy album. He was number five on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 greatest stand-up comedians ever. On Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Greatest Stand-Up Comedians of All Time, he was listed as No. 5.

Family

Parents

Rosalie Tingman and Julius Rock had Rock as a child. Soon after his birth, his parents moved to Crown Heights in Brooklyn. They relocated a few years later, settling in the working-class neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant. His father, Julius, who passed away in 1988 following ulcer surgery, was a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman. His mother, Rosalie, was a teacher and social worker for people with mental disabilities.

Siblings

Chris Rock is the eldest of seven brothers and sisters: Andi, Tony, Charles, Kenny, Andre, Jordan, and Brian Rock.
