Simi Explains Why She Titled Her Duet With Tiwa Savage “Men Are Crazy”

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Simi has explained why she chose the name ‘Men Are Crazy’ for her duet with Tiwa Savage, a single that fans eagerly anticipated prior to its release.

The singer discussed the controversy over the title in an interview with Angela Yee on her podcast, Way Up. When the song was first released, Simi stated she chose to let the song’s message speak for itself rather than examining the meaning behind the contentious title. She highlighted that she thought the track would accurately convey the intended meaning.

Simi acknowledged that the song’s title had sparked some internet controversy, but she pointed out that this had inadvertently increased interest in the song and aided in its rollout plan. Simi emphasized Tiwa’s contribution to tempering the song’s message through her lyrics, pointing to the line “Men are crazy but I still want one in my bed,” which she disclosed was originally supposed to be more direct as “men are crazy.”

“Men are Crazy,” which Simi and Tiwa Savage collaborated on, was released a month ago. For female Afrobeats collaborations, this is a significant milestone as it’s the first time Tiwa Savage and Simi have worked together on a song.

Both “Men Are Crazy” and “All I Want,” which were released in February 2024, are lead singles from her upcoming album, which is anticipated to be released in the latter part of the year.
